Vision and Long-Term Framework

WHAT IS STRATEGIC VISION?

Every organisation should establish a vision to define its guidelines and look ahead. A vision is the desired outcome over a certain period (typically five or 10 years) and serves as a beacon as the organisation navigates through its various opportunities and challenges.

Without a clear vision, organisations risk moving blindly, taking detours, possibly never reaching the desired goal. The vision, among other things, sets the tone for strategic reflection.

HOW CAN VISION IMPACT THE ORGANISATION?

A clear vision mobilises all organisation stakeholders around a common direction and fuels the resulting strategies and projects. Organisations can use the vision to help determine the targets to be met, as well as the strategic priorities for the coming years. This ensures consistent choices and aligns actions on medium- and long-term goals that will help the organisation organise, develop and sustain itself.

For example, if a company’s goal is to double its revenue, its actions must be oriented toward gradually achieving this goal. The vision serves as a guide that will help maintain its DNA and better direct the organisation’s strategic reflections over the years.

 

HOW IS A STRATEGIC VISION developed?

The vision is typically determined by the management team, the board of directors or representatives of the organisation who set its course. It then extends to the rest of the team and affects all operations.

In 2020, L’Arrêt-Source, a shelter for young women, asked Espace Stratégies to help pinpoint its internal and external challenges, clarify its strategic positioning and long-term vision and determine its major strategic directions. Once these major directions were adopted, ES helped the organisation identify the best development avenues.

Expansion Dieppe

Expansion Dieppe supports businesses in its territory in New Brunswick in carrying out their projects. In 2020, Expansion Dieppe sought Espace Stratégies’ support in a strategic process to develop a long-term vision for the organisation. ES based its support on the three strategic Ps: mobilizing stakeholders through a participatory process, defining relevant positioning aligned with the ecosystem’s reality and developing an efficient plan that encourages the implementation of high-impact actions.
